How to add a video to Shopify Homepage
Step 1 – Login into your Shopify store admin center using owner credentials and click on the “Online Store” and then “Themes” in the left side navigation and click on the “Customize” button on the right side (Refer to the below image).
The purpose of this action is to customize your current theme to add a video to the home page.
Step 2 – After clicking on the “Customize” button, you will reach theme settings, select the home page from the top or any other page where you want to add video.
Click on the “Add Section” in the left navigation and search “Video” in the search bar and click on the Video section to add the Shopify video section (Refer to the below image).
Step 3 – In the above step you have added the Shopify video section to your Home page, you can drag and drop the video section up and down as per your home page design and click on the “Video” section in the right-hand side box to upload your video. (Refer to the below image).
For drag and drop of the video section up and down the page, press the mouse cursor on the 6 dots Next to the Video and drag the section to the upper side and drop it as per your page design in the theme.
Step 4 – Once you will click on the Video section on the right side, you will get the option on the left side to add the video from a video url like YouTube video or FB, or any other site (Refer to the below image).
You can add Video Heading, Heading size, Video Cover image, add the video URL, video alt text, video size as per the screen, background color, etc, all the options are available on the left side, keep scrolling and set the details and click on the “Save” button.
Step 5 – After clicking on the “Save” button, you can see your video on your home page, and this is how I add video to shopify homepage (Refer to the below image).

How to add a video to Shopify homepage without youtube
Let’s understand how to upload video to Shopify without youtube. To add video on Shopify homepage, first, you need to upload your own video file to the Shopify files storage location.
Log in to your Shopify store admin center and click on the “Content”–>Files (Left navigation)
Click on the Upload Files button (top right corner) Refer to the below image
- The video file should be in MP4 format which is highly recommended by the Shopify
- The Shopify video size should be 20 MB only.
- files larger than 20 MB can’t be uploaded, you need to upload to another platform like Youtube, Facebook, or any other hosting place and use the link of the video to display it on Shopify.
I have uploaded an MP4 video file to Shopify files highlighted in yellow. copy the video file URL, it will be in use very soon in another file.
Shopify video section code
We need to add a video embedding code file in the theme if you are using the Shopify Dawn theme or the default free theme.
- Login to the Shopify admin center and click on “online store”
- Click on Themes and three dots next to Customize button and click on “Edit Code” (Refer to the below image)
- Click on the “Add New Section” under the section template in the Edit code for the theme page.
- The name is like “MyHomePageVideo” and it will be added like Homepagevideo.liquid, make sure no space in between the letters, it’s doesn’t allow
- Remove all the default codes from the page MyHomePageVideo.liquid
- Copy this code Shopify video section code file and paste same on the page and make sure you replace your video link (Refer to the below image for reference) and save the page.
You have successfully added the Shopify video section code file to the Dawn theme or default free Shopify theme. Now you have to add this customer video section to the homepage.
Let’s understand how to add a video to Shopify homepage without youtube. After uploading the video to Shopify, we need to add that video to the homepage.
- Click on Online Store in the Shopify admin center
- Click on the Themes and Customize button
- Select the homepage where you want to add this video section.
- To add a Shopify video section, click on the Add Section and search for “Homepage Videos”.
- Select the section and now you can see your own video has been added to the homepage without a YouTube link successfully.
- I have added the video in full page width, you can adjust the video width in the code file as per your theme.
